CRRC High-Speed Railway INS Application

2023-02-23

1. I-NAV CRRC High-Speed Railway INS Application

CRRC, a Chinese rolling stock manufacturer, has developed an INS (Inertial Navigation System) application specifically designed for its high-speed railway trains. The primary objective of the INS application is to enhance the accuracy and reliability of train positioning and navigation, particularly in areas where satellite signals may be weak or obstructed.

The CRRC INS application integrates various navigation sensors, such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, and barometers, to calculate the train's speed, position, and heading. The system is capable of detecting and compensating for external factors like wind, temperature, and track irregularities, ensuring precise and stable navigation.

Extensive testing of the INS application has been conducted on several high-speed railway lines in China, including the Beijing-Shanghai and Wuhan-Guangzhou lines, yielding promising results. According to CRRC, the INS application has demonstrated a positioning accuracy of less than 10 meters, significantly surpassing traditional GPS-based systems.

The benefits of the INS application for high-speed trains are substantial. It can enhance operational efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and improve passenger comfort and safety. Additionally, the system provides real-time data on the train's performance and status, enabling operators to optimize train schedules and enhance maintenance planning.

The integration of the inertial navigation system within the smart train operation system, along with satellite navigation and secondary radar systems, ensures redundancy and accuracy improvements in speed measurement and positioning equipment. The inertial navigation system acts as a multi-source data fusion input, enabling the train's independent perception through measurements of attitude, speed, acceleration, and mileage. This information facilitates efficient measurement of various geometric parameters of the track and integration with the operation control system, providing valuable big data services for the track's geometric state measurement and operation.

The inertial navigation system products comply with the operating scenarios and requirements of rail transit, with the design of system software and hardware meeting the rail transit EN50155 vehicle application standard or equivalent requirements. The system finds application across different line systems in rail transit, including subways, light rail, monorails, urban railways, and trams.
